Talk about starting at the top! Syd Hoff’s sold his first cartoon to The New Yorker magazine in 1930 when he was just eighteen years old. That event signaled the beginning of a career that spanned over six decades and included publication of nearly two thousand cartoons in many prominent magazines, advertising commissions with companies that have since achieved near-iconic status, and the published writing and illustration of over 100 children’s books, how-to guides, and adult fiction. Even in his 80’s, Syd continued to travel to schools across the country inspiring children to read and tap into their own creative genius through paper and pen. His prolific career will long be remembered by all.
